There are fourteen (14) public elementary schools located in thirteen (13) barangays of Cardona. Three (3) of these schools – Boor, Malanggam and Tuna Barrio Schools -- offer only up to grade four while the rest offers complete elementary including pre-school education. There are three (3) national high schools: Bernardo F. San Juan National High School in the mainland, Tuna-Balibago National High School in Barangay Balibago and Catalino Salazar National High School in Barangay Subay. There are five (5) private schools that offer pre-school up to high school namely San Francisco Parish School in Del Remedio, CJ Learning Center in Calahan MV Montessori Integrated School in Real, Mother Most Montessori School in Dalig and Talim Island Academy in Brgy. Subay. There is also a college under the University of Rizal System (URS)- Fishery Research Institute which offers Bachelor’s Degree major in Fishery.

Data from the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division Office shows that there were 8,675 enrollees for school year 2009-2010 for the public elementary, intermediate, and secondary levels. Enrollees at the primary and intermediate level numbered 5,703 with 144 teachers, giving a student-teacher ratio of 1:40, equivalent to the prescribed ratio of 1:40. Almost all schools in the primary level are complying with the required ratio except for Subay Elementary School that has a ratio of 47:1 and Malanggam Barrio School that rated 7:1. This school cannot be dissolved for reasons that primary-aged children cannot be allowed to travel across the lake or to other public schools for safety reasons. Distribution of primary school teachers has to be made more equitable to avoid understaffing of teachers in certain schools. The number of public secondary schools enrollees is 2,972 with 81 teachers and a student-teacher ratio of 1:37 slightly higher than the prescribed ratio.
